Old Man Quantum

I’ve been universing for 13.8 billion years…
So don’t you give me any of that shit,
I know what I’m talking about!

I may currently just be a collection of carbon molecules,
Themselves made up of atoms,
Sub-atomic particles,
Sub-sub-atomic particles,
All strung together with light,
And other bosons,

But I know a degenerate Bose-Einsteinian foolΒΉ when I see one!

ΒΉ ‘Einsteinian fool’ may seem a bit of an oxymoron, but please suspend disbelief for a moment…

      1. I’m a total science geek. A year of physics in university gave me enough grounding to wrap my head around there being a black a hole and an event horizon, and also enough to know that grasping any of the details of that would require at minimum 10 more years of intensive physics study beyond where I am. I figure it’s good to be able to recognize what you don’t know πŸ˜‰

      2. I’m sure I’ve asked you this and you’ve told me this before actually, sorry! πŸ˜†

Haha! You’re dead right. It also just takes time for those ideas to sink in, I think. It took me a few years after finishing my degree to properly process it all and place it into context. I enjoyed reading a lot of high-level popular science books from the library which helped to work out what I’d just learned! A bit of a backwards process.

But yeah, glimpsing the details of physics and astronomy is terrifying! Like there’s actually people who program software to calculate space probe trajectories to planets, including gravitational slingshots etc, and taking into account general relativistic effects. Nightmare!

      3. Or the engineers who land Mars rovers on Mars… πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Incredible!

      1. I was thinking that too :). ‘white house’ or ‘low on cash’. Both could be quite insulting, haha. “She’s as big as a house…!”
