Poem 1 Minute

My brain is a relational database,
It stores information via common attributes,
Enabling reverse look-ups between pieces of information which weren’t necessarily causally-related,
But related through things likeโ€”
Similar-sounding words,
Similar emotions experienced whilst exposed to concepts or information,
Similar physical environments,
In fact the connecting feelings/intuitions (search queries) can be very wide-ranging;

It’s not great for purposeful, systematic enumeration and recall of data,
And it leads to obscure and dynamic branching (often distracting) thoughts,

But given a starting point,
It can lead to really useful, novel insights,
Unexplained and non-rationalisable intuitions but which nevertheless turn out to be accurate (neural networking),
Original creative ideas,
Or just pure junk thoughts which may otherwise contain humorous value ๐Ÿ˜„,
Or not ๐Ÿ˜ญ.

  1. Yes my brain is very much like that, only all too often when I try and think something out, especially when half awake in the middle of the night, it turns into one of those overcomplicated SQL statements that never quite works as you want.

      2. Yep, I totally agree! I once worked on a project where I had to do ever-more complex queries because the original models/tables created before I started combined with the new complex features that the customer wanted required it.

        But satisfyingly we eventually got to simplify the core domain model which was leading to that logic and the queries became a lot simpler. However performing that migration was complex and required a ton of work but amazingly, it all worked out! One of my most satisfying achievements haha.
