Six months ago when I was researching a psychologist/psychotherapist person or service I could use, I was initially only interested in finding a local one so that I could see someone in person.
I think itโs somewhat Orwellian and clinical and detached to be speaking to a therapist through a video screen, isn’t it? You wouldn’t accept interacting with a pet through video call as being the same thing, would you?
Anyway at the time I found one promising local place with lots of options for therapists/psychologists, but I would have had to wait an unknown period because they were busy and I really needed the boost from starting something soon as I was crippled with OCD. So I decided to see what would be the best option if I allowed myself to include any remote therapists, and hence I ended up finding the good psychologist I’m seeing now.
So now I’m at the point where I really feel like I’d benefit from seeing someone in person, especially when it comes to discussing more than OCD and I contacted that local psychology office againโฆ
Leathes Psychology is now a HelloSelf clinic. This means that all our clinicians now have access to HelloSelf’s bespoke clinical technology. Together we are able to offer a broad range of expertise and the highest quality therapy.
Since we have partnered with Helloself, we have moved to a predominately online clinicโฆ

What is all this cold Orwellian corporate gaslighting double-speak crap!?
Years and years ago I read a science-fiction novel about a futuristic dystopia where people lived on isolated estates separated by miles, and only interacted with others through virtual reality.
Remote working is not a panacea for everything and it seems too obvious. It’s sad to see how mental healthcare (as unavailable as it already was before the pandemic) has been seemingly irrevocably damaged further by this self-defeating trend. It’s heartbreaking.

Oh my I have been writing a post (will post it Friday) where I talk about something similar. So does this mean that you will no longer be seen in person?

Lol wow. I bet a lot of people are concerned about this trend actually. No the person i have been seeing has always been via video call, because in person specialists are very hard to find. But even the potential in-person option i thought i had is now off the table ๐. There might be others if i kept looking but it represents a trend.

I think you misunderstood what i meant, i probably wrote it in a long-winded way! I was thinking of changing therapist so i can see one in person. My current one there is no issue with just that she is remote.
