Interesting that I take strength from war documentaries and dramas,
The irrational nonchalance and dark humour in a tough situation,
Controlling the urge to complain,
Despite the overarching questionable circumstances and incompetence of upper management;
Looking for morality in the situation is futile,
It is a war,
Each day brings many new battles and each battle is different,
Fuck-ups and trauma have to be pushed aside to focus on the present;
Daily admin and grooming standards need to be maintained amidst the chaos,
With gritted teeth, accomplishing small things which boost morale,
Priorities change and goals shift before they’ve even begun,
Have to keep moving with it, finding pockets of strength and calm.

At some point, the tour of duty will end,
Or I’ll die in combat;
Just trying to do myself proud.

You make many good analogies here. And I like the haiku. I think ironically ending posts with a bitter haiku would be a good shtick for you.

Thanks :).
Haha! Yes, I do like the unexpected jabs to keep you on your toes π. It wasn’t a haΓ―ku though! You’ve just thus demonstrated my point about their stuffiness and needless restrictiveness lol.

It’s an even better irony for it not to be a proper haiku then, to strike back at the haiku purist establishment.

The beauty and skill in writing transcend the unnecessary rules. One could argue they are a crutch, but I’m not that cynical lol.
