I Thought There Was A Body…

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
Any day now…
The juices will come on drippin’ down,

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
The windows are open,
Since early last June,

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
But then I heard tremendous banging and stomping,
As the door lock was replaced;

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
The windows are still open,
Though it’s now sub-zero,

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
So I bought myself a ladder,
Decided to go a-pryin’,

I thought there was a body in the room above me,
So I pushed up that darkened window,
Parted the curtains,

I THOUGHT THERE WAS A BODY IN THE ROOM ABOVE ME,
AND WHEN I PULLED BACK THE DUVET…
IT WAS FROZEN IN MID-SCREAM,
VACUUM-SEALED, SO AS TO CONTAIN THE STENCH.

True story up until (not including) stanza 5. Which got me wondering what I would find if I bought a ladderβ€¦πŸ€”. Those darkened, permanently-ajar windows look tantalisingly grim! The room above me has been empty for monthsβ€” the housemate who was in it would stay with family in Portugal for months at a time. Then suddenly the lock was replaced (I think) at the same time that the front door lock was replaced, but the windows still left open πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. They could still be a tenant, or not, I have no idea with this guy. But he was the scariest/weirdest person I’ve ever met apart from myself.
