Yaw, Pitch And Roll

Up and down, side to side,
Round and round,
Is how my life goes!

After losing the bank card,
Changing bank, and obtaining a new cardβ€”

I found myself, again,
Unable to pay!!
How!!??

I’d decided to test out Apple Pay,
Since I now have a card as backup,
But Apple Pay still does not work,
So screw that, I’ve given up on it,

It was fine, though,
Because I had the cardβ€”
Except I didn’t!
Un-be-liev-able.
Am I losing my mind!? Again?

Back in the car, drive back home,
Quick look around,
Race against time…

No card, no card, no card,
Again, no recollection,
Of ever misplacing it…

Back in the car, quick look around,
In the torchlight,
But then…

A pattern!
My final visual memory of both of those cards,
Had been using them to pay for food…

And…
Unusually-so, two days agoβ€”
I’d used chip-and-pin,
Since it was over Β£30…

Chip-and-pin…
Over Β£30…
The same both timesβ€” because of lockdown!
That has to be it!

For months, I’d only been paying using contactless,
Because I’d made it a habit to make multiple trips,
β€”I’d needed the excuses to get out of the house,

And knowing how my brain works…
I knew instantly, I’d fallen prey to habit,
And these last 2 times, using chip-and-pin,
I must have simply left my card in the reader!

Back to the supermarket,
30 mins before close,
All the lights are red,
The slowest driver ever in front,

I’m back at the shop, information desk,
“Hi, can I help?”,
“Yes, I’ve left 2 bank cards here within the last 2 weeks”,
And sure enough, they had the latest card,
But not the first (had been over 48 hours),
And here I was, 48 hours after leaving that new card!

5 mins of bureaucracy,
Come on, this is idiocracy…
Got the card, back to the checkout,
Pick up my shopping, which had been set aside…done!

And this is how my life has always gone,
Many convoluted adventures, much time used,
Simply trying to get the simple things done!

And then re-doing them,
Just for fun.

    1. Haha, thank you! Don’t worry, it’s fine :), I was just glad to have worked out where the card went, and to get the food in time before the shop closed! That was really going to annoy me if I didn’t! And man, I really would have felt crazy if I hadn’t found the card. I am also very glad to know what happened to the first one!

I finally feel like I’m on top of food shopping for the first time since the lockdown began πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. There’s always been things delaying it.

    1. Thanks Margie. Well, it would’ve been if I hadn’t found that new card and therefore worked out what had happened! It would’ve been the greatest mystery, lol. It was so bizarre I didn’t know what to think about it and was suspending disbelief!

The flannel still hasn’t turned up πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Quelle surprise!

      1. The flannel turned up πŸ˜†. But I have no idea how. I just gradually became aware of its presence again, and belatedly remembered that I’d previously lost it. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

      2. Shows the importance of having multiple of those things xD.
