Zombie In The Corner

As I’m busy in the kitchen,
Doing my cooking,
There stands a dark figure,
In the corner of my eye;

The door has opened,
A wraith has appeared,
And it catches me by surprise,
Every time;

It startles me,
And makes me jump,
For being around this housemate,
Is no joke;

The stink of smoke and drink,
Are always strong,
And as they go out to smoke,
They bring cigarettes back in,
β€”On the bottoms of their feet;

In the morning, they’ll stumble,
Through their own spilt puddle of alcohol,
Which I later clean up;

Traipsing through the cigarettes and alcohol,
Wearing only slippers,
They are oblivious,
Through their fog of drunknness;

All of these reasons,
And many more,

Are why I constantly shudder,
At the zombie in the corner.

    1. Wow, wasn’t expecting that! Wasn’t expecting it to be gripping. Thank you!

      I resent having to write about those things sometimes, instead of writing about more creative things, but it’s really morale-boosting to get good comments on things like this πŸ’™. Thank you, your support and empathy on this really help! πŸ€—

      1. It’s my pleasure. I have been passing my time throughout the day by jumping on here because I know we writers are expressing ourselves here more right now.
        Venting is healthy. I adore this community and it’s support. I have gained real friends and great ideas for my own blog too😊

      2. Yikes. I try to look at those people with even more love and compassion because they aren’t settled within themselves. Being still is quite hard for them and looking inwards isn’t their thing….yet. I feel this thing will drag on for sometime and it is forcing us to do just that. I wish you patience my friend. My dear gf who is a social worker told me when people trigger something in you it’s because it’s something you need to look at and accept within yourself, perhaps subconsciously. The folks we attract are are mirrors. Just trying to give you another perspective πŸ˜‰

      3. I actually completely agree with you usually.

        But this guy is just arrogant and ignorant, he now has his girlfriend round here. And this situation is too serious to be messing about.

        All of my housemates are just random people I’d never met before, because I was housed by the council here after being homeless for a year.

      4. Oh my, I am so sorry and yes YIKES!! Not a good scenario. Folks really need to be taking this more seriously.
        I have had periods of homelessness too. I completely understand where you are coming from. These people around you have no ide ac how lucky they are to have a light do bright amongst them. Keeping doing what you are doing my friend. It is the only way to live πŸ™Œβ€πŸ˜Š

      5. Wow, thank you very much! What a nice comment πŸ™‚πŸ’™.

        I have just got off the phone to police. They were definitely interested in my report about my housemate, but I need to keep checking the Government website until the police actually have powers to clamp down on this, and then phone them back :D. I feel better having done that!

      6. You’re welcome. I live my life by the golden rule. I’ve experienced loads of darkness and it’s in my nature to uplift and affirm others. You get what you give my friend, right?
        Good for you. It’s important to feel safe in your own home!

      7. Awesome! Yes WordPress is a great way to use the time :D, through reading and writing and connecting with people πŸ™‚. So much better than watching TV shows…πŸ˜„.

        Yes, we certainly seem to be writing more! Yesterday seemed surprisingly quiet but today a lot more activity.

        Thanks for encouraging the venting! I love the community here too. Yeah, I’ve gained amazing friends, and god, how they are all coming in handy for this current time!

        I just feel soooo lucky to have this and writing to spend my time on, gain support from and give me purpose and achievement…

      8. I am on your team my friend 100% I gave up on TV watching a few yrs ago πŸ˜‰ I do enjoy a Netflix or Amazon Prime binge but lately I feel so creative and inspired to share that side of me. I have started painting again too. Just small canvases I use these watercolor pens I find. Basic scenes that I incorporate my poems on 🎨
        I self published my 1st book of poetry last yr and it’s available on Amazon entitled “Emotional Musings”. I’m currently working on the 2nd one now. Believe it or not I do everything from a crappy mid level Android cell phone. I haven’t owned a laptop in years. I have a touch pen and literally plunk out my writing one letter at a time LOLπŸ€ͺ
        It helps me to be patient and I know I will really appreciate a laptop once I can afford it πŸ™

    2. I STILL have a housemate going in and out, in and out, even after a special live broadcast from the PM earlier about enforcing the lockdown now, and after I questioned him about it earlier.
