The Lost Friends

I just can’t catch a break,

Coming here, to the South,
Last year in August,
To stay with my Aunt,

β€”The first time in a decade,
I’ve been near to close friends,

I thought,
This will be great,
β€”Alongside everything else,
Seeing them will help!

I’m only thirty miles,
Instead of 400 miles,
Yet except for when I needed to stay,
This hasn’t materialised,

For one friend,
Has been depressed,
Life-long night owl,
And there’s clearly autism,

Another friend,
He’s a scientist,
So he’s never here,
Always in China,

A few other friends,
I’ve known by proxy,
Through the depressed friend,
So I don’t see those either;

Since coming here,
I’ve made two friends,
Yet,
I now can’t see those either,

So overall,
The grand-total,
Of my nearby friends,
Is net-zero.

Cheers.

    1. That’s true, and I know he’ll get me through ;).

You just can’t reach equilibrium without a certain amount of social contact, especially if you really benefit from it. And repeated fluctuations in that are very disheartening, reducing my motivation to try again.

But yes, all this goes a long way :).

      Thank you! πŸ’™

      1. I so understand what you mean about having social contact and the benefits that you get from it.
I really feel for you and hope so much that things will get better for you!
        Don’t give up!
I keep you in my good thoughts, Robin.

    1. Thanks! That’s ok, it’s still relevant! πŸ™‚

It was actually at that time that I started making stronger WordPress friends πŸ™‚ and having contact with them outside of WordPress. I’m realising how good even remote social contact can be, with the right people. Onwards and upwards! When your friends stop making effort, make new ones 😁.
